Our Story

With over 50 years combined experience in holistic and healthcare services, we wanted to create a space where patients/clients can easily access care, and where healing practitioners can treat their patients/clients in a comfortable, peaceful setting while maintaining their independence as professionals and business owners.

History of Greenhouse

For close to 100 years, the Greenhouse Wellness Center building has been a fixture on the southwest corner of East Mt Airy Avenue and Ardleigh Street. The main building was built in 1928, by the Woltemate Family to house their flower business which had begun on Germantown Avenue. When originally constructed, it had approximately one dozen greenhouses connected to it and functioned as a retail florist from 1927-1984. In 1990, Dr. Richard Baron purchased the property with the vision to provide medical care to the community. Along with Dr. Elizabeth Fabens, Greenhouse Internists began in 1991 to provide high-quality care to the residents of northwest Philadelphia and surrounding neighborhoods, specializing in general internal medicine and geriatric care.

In 1994 the annex was completed, expanding service to the community. In December 2022, the practice closed upon Dr. Fabens' retirement and the building was purchased by Dave Leitch & Elizabeth Liddell to begin a new chapter serving the community. In a nod to history and tradition, Greenhouse Wellness Center was formed, opening their doors to the public in April 2023.

Practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since 2003, most recently at 7152 Germantown Avenue, Elizabeth Liddell moved her practice and herbal dispensary to the Greenhouse building. Welcoming colleagues to keep this building a health care resource for the community has been the focus of this collaboration.
